I am an artist making images full of movement and colour in which I attempt to reflect the moods and beauty of the world around me.
Inspired by painters such as Rothko, Turner, Klee and Matsumoto, I attempt to represent the world in a rather abstract way. In photography, my inspirations come from Chris Friel, Valda Bailey and Graham Cook.
I have won no awards and I revel in obscurity with my wife, Beth and faithful spaniel, Stan.
My favourite Fotospeed paper is, naturally my own signature paper which was released this spring, the Cotton Etching 305. I love it because it was designed especially for me. I wanted a paper with a beautiful heavy weight and a deep matt texture to bring out fine detail and add softness to to gentle images. It has a white base and so reproduces colours faithfully without adding any colour cast and also, for a matt paper is extraordinarily good at producing deep, rich blacks. I am particularly amazed at how Fotospeed have achieved this. It is now my paper of choice for nearly all of my printing.
I also keep a stock in of Smooth Cotton 300 for its luminosity and warmth and for when I don’t want a textured finish and Platinum Baryta for particularly difficult prints where colour and punch are important. But now I have the Cotton Etching 305, I think these papers are not going to see the light of day very often!
