The Kaiser K2458 FilmCopy Vario Kit is a versatile film and slide digitisation system combining the precision Kaiser K2457 FilmCopy Vario holding device with the K2453 slimlite plano LED light box. Designed for photographing photographic negatives and transparencies using a digital camera with a 1:1 macro lens, the kit provides stable film positioning and controlled transmitted illumination in one convenient package. Supplied with a format mask for standard 5 x 5 cm mounted 35 mm slides, a pair of 24 x 36 mm film masks and a light-blocking overlay mat, it is ready for common 35 mm formats. Interchangeable inserts, adjustable stop pins and four continuously adjustable masking strips allow accurate positioning and help minimise unwanted stray light. The included ultra-slim LED light box offers a 22 x 16 cm illuminated area, approximately 5000 K daylight illumination, CRI 95 colour rendering and continuous brightness adjustment. Its rechargeable battery and USB power options provide flexibility for desktop and location-based workflows. With optional masks and glass inserts, the FilmCopy Vario system can also accommodate selected medium-format and panoramic films. A digital camera, macro lens and copy stand or tripod are required separately.

Kaiser K2458 FilmCopy Vario Kit

Precision film positioning meets colour-accurate LED illumination. The Kaiser FilmCopy Vario Kit combines interchangeable film holders, adjustable light masking and a super-slim rechargeable daylight light box to create a flexible foundation for camera-based digitisation of photographic slides and negatives.

A complete film holding and LED illumination solution for camera-based digitisation

The Kaiser K2458 FilmCopy Vario Kit combines the K2457 precision film holder with the K2453 slimlite plano LED light box. Together, they provide stable positioning and controlled illumination for photographing negatives and transparencies using a suitable digital camera with a 1:1 macro lens mounted on a copy stand or tripod.

Included in the kit: One Kaiser K2457 FilmCopy Vario holding device, one K4489 format mask for mounted 35 mm slides in 5 x 5 cm frames, one pair of K4486 masks for 24 x 36 mm film, one 254 x 201 mm stray-light overlay mat and one Kaiser K2453 slimlite plano LED light box. The K2453 light box is supplied with a USB-C cable and USB-C to USB-A adapter.

35 mm film compatibility: The included K4489 mask accommodates standard mounted 35 mm slides, while the K4486 pair is designed for 24 x 36 mm film and incorporates guide ridges for film strips. Mounted slides are placed directly from above; film strips are inserted by opening the pressure frame.

Optional format masks: Separately available accessories include K4491 masks for 24.5 x 36.5 mm, K4431 for 4.5 x 6 cm, K4485 for 6 x 6 cm, K4436 for 6 x 7 cm and K4492 for 24 x 66 mm panoramic film. These optional masks are not included in the K2458 kit.

Optional glass inserts: Kaiser offers K4490 flat glass inserts and K4433 anti-Newton/flat glass inserts for 6 x 9 cm film, together with additional anti-Newton glass and format mask combinations for selected 35 mm and medium-format originals. These accessories are available separately and can help adapt the system to different film handling requirements.

LED illumination: The included K2453 slimlite plano light box features a 22 x 16 cm illuminated area, approximately 5000 K colour temperature, CRI 95 colour rendering and continuously adjustable brightness. Its 23 LEDs provide uniform transmitted illumination for viewing, sorting and photographic reproduction of transparent originals.

Rechargeable and USB operation: The K2453 incorporates a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery offering approximately five hours of operation at full brightness. It can also operate from a suitable USB charger, power bank, computer or vehicle USB source. A USB-C cable and USB-C to USB-A adapter are included; a separate mains USB charger is not listed in the manufacturer's standard K2453 contents.

Light control and alignment: The FilmCopy Vario holder incorporates adjustable stop pins, four steplessly adjustable masking strips and a supplied overlay mat to help minimise unwanted light around the original. The LED light box provides brightness adjustment and a memory function, allowing illumination to be adapted to different photographic originals and exposure requirements.

Mounted medium-format slides: For medium-format transparencies mounted in 7 x 7 cm frames, Kaiser specifies the separately available K2459 FilmCopy dia MF holder. The K2458's optional medium-format inserts are intended for compatible film strips and cut individual negatives or transparencies, rather than these larger mounted slide frames.

Difference from the K2457: The K2457 FilmCopy Vario is the holding device supplied without a light source. The K2458 kit includes the same holding device plus the K2453 slimlite plano LED light box, making it the appropriate option when both a film holder and compatible illumination are required.

Important: The K2458 is a film positioning and illumination kit, not a standalone digital scanner. A digital camera, suitable 1:1 macro lens, copy stand or tripod and appropriate image processing software are required separately. The holder's stated weight of approximately 600 g excludes masks and overlay mat; the K2453 light box weighs approximately 570 g. The manufacturer does not specify a single total assembled kit weight. The quality of digitised images depends on the camera, lens, illumination settings, alignment and capture technique. Negative film images require suitable software or editing methods to convert them into positive photographs. Use the kit in accordance with the manufacturer's operating instructions.
